Movie Review: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The Texas chainsaw massacre review

For as long as their has been classic horror films, there have been remakes of them. From the nightmare on elm street to dawn of the dead. Remakes are pretty common fair in the horror genre. Yet no remake really seems to hit the mark. Maybe because they just can't live up to the legacy of the original. 2003's 'the Texas chainsaw massacre' is a modern re telling of the 1974 film of the same name. Having not seen the original however, I watched with an open mind and with no real expectations. The story kicks off with your typical group of teen...ish people on a road trip to Dallas to see a concert. And to no ones surprise, things go pear shaped in a hurry. Instead of taking us off this warn out horror path with surprising plot twists and interesting characters, we are put right in the middle of gruesome and down right uncomfortable torture scenes that are as close to snuff as one would ever want to get. though the film does a decent job of creating some genuinely tense moments, it's not too long before the film plays the gore card again. All in all, the Texas chainsaw massacre is an average horror film, With predictable story and over the top gore but to its credit, manages some tense moments to boot. If you were a fan of the original or If you are a fan of slasher flicks then this film should satisfy. however, even the heartiest of horror fans may cringe watching this bloodbath.

Movie Review: Wrong Turn 4 & 5

Killing two birds with one stone in this review.

Wrong turn 4 & 5 review

The horror genre is so over populated that it can be hard to stand out. In a sea of psychopaths and serial killers, The horror genre can feel more 'been there done that' at times. Enter the wrong turn franchise, particularly wrong turn: 4 bloody beginnings and wrong turn 5: bloodlines. These films follow the murderous beginnings of our favourite inbred cannibals(who look more like orcs from lord of the rings if you ask me) ; one eye, three finger and saw tooth. From their escape and hostile takeover of the mental asylum as seen in wrong turn 4, to hunting people down at the annual mountain man festival in wrong turn 5. though the plots are extremely formulaic and stock standard, wrong turn 4 and 5 are not without moments of gory charm.
Wether you're a fan of detailed sex scenes or have a bit of bloodlust, wrong turn 4 and 5 will satisfy. However, if gripping story lines with interesting characters and plot twists are more your flavour, then look elsewhere. Put simply, wrong turn 4 and 5 are your standard slasher flicks that are lost at sea with many others. It's a no frills gore ride that just is what it is.

Movie Review: Creature

That's right, i now do movie reviews! lets get right to it!

Creature review

When it comes to films, I never really have strong feelings towards them be it for or against, I see them for what they are. Though recently, one film made me change my tune. with nothing to do late on a Saturday night, i turned to a film I'd never heard of, 2011 horror flick 'creature' hoping to be pleasantly surprised. what I got was beyond my comprehension. The film opens with some good old fashioned nudity as a young girl takes a quick dip in her local swamp.. (Yes that's right). Blissfully unaware of the surrounding Bacteria, this brave young lady gracefully frolics in the murky water... Until her legs are torn off by an alligator. The generic horror plot ensues when a group of teen... Ish people take a road trip to Louisiana and hear of the local legend of 'lockjaw', a half man, half alligator thing that is said to haunt the swamps. As if that didn't have the makings of a B movie already, the plot takes several ridicules turns, relying on various sex scenes and even turns to incest to build the suspense.... (I wish I was making that up). The antagonist, lockjaw, looks like something off power rangers, in fact he seems to be a rip off of the lockjaw character from the he man cartoon and is about as frightening as the cheap rubber suit that the actor who playes him so proudly dawns. As you would expect, most of the main cast tragicly die in a series of low budget fight scenes with incredibly cheesy effects. The fact that I'm spending time reviewing this film is a true testament to how god awful it was. The only thing about creature that will keep you up at night is wondering why the hell it was made in the first place.
