Movie Review: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The Texas chainsaw massacre review

For as long as their has been classic horror films, there have been remakes of them. From the nightmare on elm street to dawn of the dead. Remakes are pretty common fair in the horror genre. Yet no remake really seems to hit the mark. Maybe because they just can't live up to the legacy of the original. 2003's 'the Texas chainsaw massacre' is a modern re telling of the 1974 film of the same name. Having not seen the original however, I watched with an open mind and with no real expectations. The story kicks off with your typical group of teen...ish people on a road trip to Dallas to see a concert. And to no ones surprise, things go pear shaped in a hurry. Instead of taking us off this warn out horror path with surprising plot twists and interesting characters, we are put right in the middle of gruesome and down right uncomfortable torture scenes that are as close to snuff as one would ever want to get. though the film does a decent job of creating some genuinely tense moments, it's not too long before the film plays the gore card again. All in all, the Texas chainsaw massacre is an average horror film, With predictable story and over the top gore but to its credit, manages some tense moments to boot. If you were a fan of the original or If you are a fan of slasher flicks then this film should satisfy. however, even the heartiest of horror fans may cringe watching this bloodbath.

Movie Review: Wrong Turn 4 & 5

Killing two birds with one stone in this review.

Wrong turn 4 & 5 review

The horror genre is so over populated that it can be hard to stand out. In a sea of psychopaths and serial killers, The horror genre can feel more 'been there done that' at times. Enter the wrong turn franchise, particularly wrong turn: 4 bloody beginnings and wrong turn 5: bloodlines. These films follow the murderous beginnings of our favourite inbred cannibals(who look more like orcs from lord of the rings if you ask me) ; one eye, three finger and saw tooth. From their escape and hostile takeover of the mental asylum as seen in wrong turn 4, to hunting people down at the annual mountain man festival in wrong turn 5. though the plots are extremely formulaic and stock standard, wrong turn 4 and 5 are not without moments of gory charm.
Wether you're a fan of detailed sex scenes or have a bit of bloodlust, wrong turn 4 and 5 will satisfy. However, if gripping story lines with interesting characters and plot twists are more your flavour, then look elsewhere. Put simply, wrong turn 4 and 5 are your standard slasher flicks that are lost at sea with many others. It's a no frills gore ride that just is what it is.

Movie Review: Creature

That's right, i now do movie reviews! lets get right to it!

Creature review

When it comes to films, I never really have strong feelings towards them be it for or against, I see them for what they are. Though recently, one film made me change my tune. with nothing to do late on a Saturday night, i turned to a film I'd never heard of, 2011 horror flick 'creature' hoping to be pleasantly surprised. what I got was beyond my comprehension. The film opens with some good old fashioned nudity as a young girl takes a quick dip in her local swamp.. (Yes that's right). Blissfully unaware of the surrounding Bacteria, this brave young lady gracefully frolics in the murky water... Until her legs are torn off by an alligator. The generic horror plot ensues when a group of teen... Ish people take a road trip to Louisiana and hear of the local legend of 'lockjaw', a half man, half alligator thing that is said to haunt the swamps. As if that didn't have the makings of a B movie already, the plot takes several ridicules turns, relying on various sex scenes and even turns to incest to build the suspense.... (I wish I was making that up). The antagonist, lockjaw, looks like something off power rangers, in fact he seems to be a rip off of the lockjaw character from the he man cartoon and is about as frightening as the cheap rubber suit that the actor who playes him so proudly dawns. As you would expect, most of the main cast tragicly die in a series of low budget fight scenes with incredibly cheesy effects. The fact that I'm spending time reviewing this film is a true testament to how god awful it was. The only thing about creature that will keep you up at night is wondering why the hell it was made in the first place.

breathing is overrated

fast forward to early 2013 now with this short but powerful little number.

Suffocating under thoughts of you

The fake smiles withhold the truth, I'm screaming inside, made to suffer, The Wounds still bare your name.
Searching for freedom I stand my ground but within my restless mind
lies your face, Leaving me breathless

Short story: The Room

This is my first short story in a very long time. It's based loosely on a dream I had.
The room

I come towards an old wooden door, Rotten and weather warn. the paint all but stripped away. what was left had turned a faint blue almost grey colour. Light seeped out from under the door. Slowly, I open the door. I walk into the room, empty except for a full length mirror hanging from the wall. My footsteps echo as I walk towards the mirror. Cautiously I stare into it, seeing only my reflection. I run my hand across my cheek as I stare back at myself. The sound of music now fills the air, a hauntingly soothing melody. I turn my head swiftly in search of it's source but find nothing, I'm all alone.
My heart beats faster. Slowly I move away from the mirror when Seemingly out of nowhere, i see something out of the corner of my eye, a figure. It was a woman. She stood static, her eyes empty and lifeless yet she smiled. A sharp chill ran through my body, the room grew cold. The music that filled the air now plays faster as the woman takes a step. I back away as she moves closer, My heart races. Step by step she draws closer, her face begins to change, manifesting itself into something more morbid. Im frozen in terror. Suddenly the music stops, the room turns black, I wake.

size dosn't matter

a very short yet sweet poem i wrote up in 2012. very dark tranquility inspired.

State of nothingness
Implosion of the heart leaves a gaping void, a hollow existence, state of sinking, desire devours the soul. Embodiment of sadness, the burden shrouding my perception, Senses fall to misery

the return...

wow it has been some time since i've been back here but here i am! hopefully bigger and better than ever. much has gone on over the past 2 years which has led to countless times of inspiration. i shall be posting my latest pieces very soon.. stay tuned!

Hey, remember that thing that didnt happen?

my second piece in two days. i seem to be shaking off the rust pretty well. im very pleased with this one.

Never was (illusions of a fractured mind)

I'm trapped inside the memories of your eyes, a serenity I'll never know.
Your smile painted a picture, edged with happiness, a mire illusion of a grieving heart. Feeding me false hope to feel whole again, your laughter, an uplifting melody, now falls silent. My mind interlocked in the past, forced to suffer by the curl hands of time.

I feel lighter than normal...

finally! my first piece since September. this one revolves around my recent emotional issues.
hopefully its on par with my other pieces and dosnt showcase any writing rust i may have

Emptiness

Sever happiness with tearful discontent, swallowed whole by misery, i lay at agonies feet.
I Walk along the shattered visions of a better life, riving in heartache, crying with defining sorrow.
Empty soul and lifeless eyes, I carry this burden. Pleas fall def, life goes on as I suffocate.
Doomed to feel hollow, a mire shadow of what once was

Soulful thoughts 2: Dream Chronicles

another very dissapointing but interesting dream ive had

Last night marked the most emotionally cruel dream ive had. I was at some sort of outdoor gathering and BBQ with my old classmates and friends. I was sitting with my back to the wall, staring at the sky. Then she came. ___ in all her natural beauty. We spoke for a little while, i stood up and we embraced. She said to me something like “have you learnt your lesson trying with me?” or “are you going to try harder with me?” as i held her, i was lost for words but i managed to mutter “yes i will”. I and she headed to the BBQ. While on our way, i explained that although i write, its hard to describe her. I still feel there is 60% of her im still yet to describe (dream figures). After the festivities, i woke up. I looked around, hugely disappointed. I honestly said out loud once i woke “aw that was so cruel”

The Grass aint always greener

This was written based on current happenings in my life. written with a bitter taste in my mouth though, i believe its one of my best works. i hope all who read it will enjoy it.

Hypocrisy of the new world

Hypocritical propaganda falls from your every word
Narcissistic ego drowns out all but your own mind
A slave to something you wish you were
Force feeding self-lavished beliefs to those who care
Fuelled by your smug self-absorption as you lead us to the Promised Land
With every lie bringing you closer to personal nirvana, we fade to nothingness
With every lie, we blindly follow

untitled love poem

this is a concept piece i just got done with. its based around my first real experince with feeling for someone. again, i may be a bit rusty but the feeling is there.

As our eyes met, my world stood still, you laughter, your sweet serenity, the swansong to my heart.
Your smile brought bliss, an unmatched radiance. With you, every day is a better tomorrow.
The moments bare a space in time, every memory brings me right back.
Every smile and laugh carved in the chronicles of my past. Fading but never gone

Stage fright

this piece was written shortly after 'vivid dreams of the longing' i went for the theatrical and dramatic with this one.

the stage

My heart pulses, synchronized to selfish agony,
Hollow despair writes the melody To my implosion, the soundtrack to my life.
Each line imbedded in my past disappointments, a lyrical massacre.
i take the stage, looking to find only shadows,
applauding my demise as they beg for an encore. The blackened crescendo draws my act to a close,
My final bow draped in sadness as the curtain seals my fate, a life sworn to failure, a life I lead

Im Back

Hey everyone, im back. this being my first entry since july i believe. with my recent family issues and emotional decline, its been difficult to keep up with everything. on the other hand, those issues have brought me back here. i will be uploading my recent pieces and hope to be blogging alot more. i think this page is due for a new look too.. stay tuned

soulful thoughts 1: The puppetry of modern music

hey guys! this is my last entry for a week or so. i thought id talk about something thats bothered me for a while now and that is, modern mainstream music. i didnt intend on writing a rant but i guess thats out the window now. ive never really been a mainstream kinda guy, never really listening to the radio as its always been garbage to me. fast forward to 2010-2011, the garbage has gotten worse. now it seems as if talent has taken a further back seat to sexuality. turning on any music television means being bombarded by horsed faced, lady boy whores who try to look hot by convulsing.... i mean dancing, looking like truck stop hookers. i wouldnt have a problem if they were hot but come on! lol. its made worse by two factors, number 1: they can hardly sing and 2 most of them dont write their own songs. take Rihanna and her 'song' california king bed for example. not only did she not write the song but its not even reminiscent of her style. dispite all these factors, their still referred to as artists . they are far from artists, more so a marketing ploy. another thing ive noticed is all this techno inspired bullshit. a computer rendered beat put to lyrics and vocals. even former big players in RnB such as: Usher, beyonce and others have conformed to this. a stand out in my mind is pitbull. the guy sucks balls but yet people adore him. hes lyrical genius includes lines like

'I can see that you like to be sexy, sexy
I can see that you like that you nasty girl
I can see that you like to be sexy, sexy
I can see that you like that you nasty girl
You're one nasty girl'

i mean come on! this dickbag has no creative talent at all. hes just as generic as anyone else. all the rage with lyrics these days is talking about 'da clubs' and 'droppin it low' and 'look at me with my undeserved sense of accomplishment' what the fuck is going on? who really are the artists here? the douche bags who preform this junk? my vote goes to the people working the mixers. the fact that most anyone can walk into a studio with half assed lyrics and no vocal talent and can make a number one record is sick. music used to be about passion and talent, so what is it about now?

It was only a dream......

hey guys! im back with another poem. this ones called 'vivid dreams of the longing'. i wrote this one about the recent dreams ive been having. i shall post, in detail, what the dreams were about so stay tuned!

Vivid dreams of the longing

Sleep brings a new world, impossibilities disarmed by an optimistic mind,
Hope engulfs reality, drowning out the bitterness of a saddend past.
Cross over into perilous desire, our hearts sing to a better tomorrow.
a silent divide bridged. lifes oncoming hurricane destroys what's not to be,
fantasy self implodes, i loose my grip on what i dream
Solaced mind now lay in ruin, your swept away by the violent tide.
The melodies of your sweet siren song now set with the rising sun.

Soulful memories volume: 2

meaning within the words

For now, I want to skip a head to 2009. This year for me was one I feel Passed me by. Many days of lounging around uninspired but, some good came out of it. I reconnected with an old friend, not knowing how much of an impact shed have on my life. One week I was feeling really ill. I was in bed quite alot. With that free time and my trusty iPod, I spoke with her some more. She brought up a song called 'love me for me' and asked me to listen to it. Im not an rnb guy by any stretch but I listened anyway. As we continued to speak, she mentioned how much the song meant to her and how she related to it. She told me shed looked everywhere for the lyrics but couldn't find them. Knowing how much the song meant to her, I wrote the lyrics by hand, sick and all. Listen after listen, I finished the lyrics (bar two words) her gratitude was amazing. Still to this day I remember how pleased she was, let alone, all the lyrics to the song.... Lol

Soulful memories volume: 1

I thought id start with a memory from my last school year. it surely had its lows but, it did produce some standout moments for me. disclaimer: any names have not been included due to confidentiality purposes

Her

2008 was an emotionally draining year for me. I was flunking school and growing very depressed. Late that year, my class of 10D were given an assignment; to work with a grade two class from deer park north primary school, my old stomping yard, and create an original story. With the preparation finished, my class headed off to deer park north to work with out grade two partners. As we were leaving, I noticed 'her'. A friend and crush of mine, she was struggling with her heavy bag. One after another, my class mates would pass her by, without even a second glance as she dragged her bag across the floor. It saddened me. There was no way I'd pass her by. I gladly helped her by taking her bag from her. The walk to the primary school was great. We spoke to each other and joked, just like old times. For that short time, the stress of the year vanished. I didn't want anything in return for my kindness but, the smile she gave me made my heart race. Her memories of me may fade, but the image of her smile that day will stay with me

New segment!

hey everyone! Im adding a new segment to, soulful madness: a haunted mind! In this segment, I look back and share some of my favorite memories thus far. After all, a haunted mind has it's high points too.
